As a producer, composer, singer, and guitarist, he has built an impressive career, performing and recording with legends such as George Clinton, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, Justin Timberlake, and Bill Laswell.
In 1995, Salas released the hard-hitting rock album “Back From The Living” under the name Stevie Salas Colorcode. Now, thirty years later, the album is being reissued as a deluxe edition. While the original release featured different cover artwork and tracklists depending on the country, the new edition brings together all of those variations into one definitive collection.
Listening again today, “Back From The Living still” radiates a timeless rock energy — from its powerful songs and fiery guitar work to its uncompromising sound. It’s a record that stands apart from passing trends, driven by Salas’ unwavering dedication to his own music and spirit. The Japanese edition of his book “When We Were the Boys: Coming of Age on Rod Stewart’s Out of Order Tour”, which was originally released in US in 2014, was out now and the book contains full of interesting episodes in his career from his tour to auditions to works for Rod Stewart and it is not only for Stevie Salas supporters, but also for Rod Stewart and Rock fans. B’zの稲葉浩志とのプロジェクト INABA/SALAS により日本の音楽ファンの間にも広く知られているスティーヴィー・サラスの書籍「スティーヴィー・サラス自伝 ギター弾きの最低で最高な人生」(リットーミュージック刊) が発売された。この本は、米国で2014年に出版されている「When We Were the Boys: Coming of Age on Rod Stewart’s Out of Order Tour」が和訳されたものであり、オーディションからツアーといったロッド・スチュワートとの活動時代についてスティーヴィー・サラスが詳細を語っており、サラスのファンにとってはもちろん、ロッド・スチュワートやロックファンにとっても興味深い内容となっている。
発売された書籍「スティーヴィー・サラス自伝 ギター弾きの最低で最高な人生」についてはもちろん、普段における曲作りのこと、日本国内にも素晴らしい楽曲を持つ優れたミュージシャン達がいるにも関わらず、ロックミュージックにおいては世界中の音楽ファンに知られる存在はまだ出てきていないように見受けられる状況についてどう感じるか・・など、スティヴィー・サラスに訊いた。

Since my career started I have always been lucky to work with some great guitar companies. In 1990 I started to also work on some of my own designs.
In the year 2000 I told myself I was never gonna wear white socks again and if possible not play anymore guitars with shapes that looked like normal safe guitars or guitars that looked like versions of a Les Paul or a Strat.

B’zの稲葉浩志とスティーヴィー・サラスによるプロジェクト INABA/SALAS は、オリジナル・スタジオ・アルバム「CHUBBY GROOVE」にてそのオリジナリティ溢れる豊かな音楽性を提示するとともに、日本縦断の”CHUBBY GROOVE TOUR 2017″ では多くのファンを熱狂させ、ロックスターとしての凄さをあらためて証明した。今回のプロジェクトによりこれまで以上に多くの国内音楽ファンに知られることとなったスティーヴィーは、1990年にアルバム「スティーヴィー・サラス・カラーコード」でデビュー。ファンク、サイケ、ハードロックが融合したような自由奔放な独自のスタイルで当時のロックファンに衝撃を与えた。自身の活動以外にもミック・ジャガー、ロッド・スチュワートをはじめとした数多くのアーティストのツアー、アルバムに参加、また、米国で人気を誇っていたテレビ番組『アメリカン・アイドル』の優勝者とレコード会社等の間を取り持つ仕事も手掛けたことでアイドル・メーカーとも呼ばれている。

The project also set out on the “Chubby Groove Tour 2017”, fascinating fans across Japan and proving their identities as true rock stars. This project has definitely helped Stevie Salas to succeed in obtaining recognition from the Japanese domestic music fans too. Stevie Salas showed a great impact to the rock industry when he debuted in 1990 with the “Stevie Salas Color Code” album, displaying a unique and original sound created by a blend of funk, psychedelic, and hard rock essences. Alongside his solo projects and bands, Stevie Salas has also played for big names such as Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart on tours and recordings. Stevie is also known as the “Idolmaker” with his role in tying up “American Idol” contest winners to the record labels.
