英国ロンドンのロイヤル・アルバート・ホールで2022年に収録されたブライアン・アダムスのライヴ作品「LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL」がリリースされた。この作品は「CUTS LIKE A KNIFE」、「INTO THE FIRE」、「WAKING UP THE NEIGHBOURS」の3枚のスタジオアルバムのそれぞれを全曲ライヴで演奏されたものが音源、映像で収録されている。このライヴ作品では、ブライアンの名曲の数々が今も尚、色あせることなくパワーと輝きを放っており、ブライアンとブライアンの盟友であるギタリスト、キース・スコットの素晴らしく、そして強固なコンビネーションが健在であることを証明している。このライヴ作品でも歌心あるギタープレイでブライアンの楽曲を見事に惹きたてているギターの名手、キース・スコットにこの作品について語って貰った。

Many rock guitarists notice the blues as the root and foundation of their playing style. Francis Dunnery has released a genuine blues album, “THE BLUES OF TOMBSTONE DUNNERY,” that tackles this music head-on, expressing its full range of emotions and striking directly at the listener’s heart. Francis Dunnery, who shone as a guitarist and singer in the progressive rock band IT BITES during the 80s, continued to create a multitude of artistic works that added further brilliance to his creativity as a musician after leaving the band. Starting in 2023, he also reignited under the name IT BITES FD, releasing the live work “Live From The Black Country.” We asked Francis Dunnery himself about his latest blues album “THE BLUES OF TOMBSTONE DUNNERY” and his and his upcoming plans.

ロックギタリスト達の多くが、そのプレイのルーツ、拠り所として取り上げるブルース音楽。そのあらゆる感情をダイレクトに表現し、聴き手に突き刺さるこの音楽に真正面から取り組んだリアルなブルースアルバム「THE BLUES OF TOMBSTONE DUNNERY」をフランシス・ダナリーがリリース。80年代にはプログレッシヴ・ロック・バンド IT BITESにてギタリスト・シンガーとして活躍したフランシス・ダナリーは、IT BITESから離れた以降も自らのミュージシャンとしての創造力に更なる輝きを増した数多くのアーティスティックな作品を創り続けていたが、2023年からは遂にIT BITES FDとしても始動しており、ライヴ作品「Live From The Black Country」をリリースしている。最新ブルースアルバム「THE BLUES OF TOMBSTONE DUNNERY」のことや気になる今後の予定についてフランシス・ダナリーに訊いた。

Carl Verheyen’s latest album, “RIVERBOAT SKY,” has been released. His authentic guitar tones, brought to life by his genuine guitar playing, are truly the marks of a master. Of the eight tracks on this album, seven feature vocals, with the remaining track, “APRIL SURPRISE,” being purely instrumental. The core group consists of Carl’s familiar tour band: John Mader on drums, Dave Marotta on bass, and Troy Dexter on keys. Additionally, they’re joined by Jim Cox on keyboards, Chad Wackerman on drums, and Alex Acuna on percussion. Notably, the title track “RIVERBOAT SKY” features a vocal duet between Carl and Sophia James, who is known from the U.S. audition show, American Idol.
With such a strong lineup, this album showcases Carl’s distinctive and comforting vocals and masterful guitar play. Beyond that, it’s enriched with spontaneous improvisations from all the instruments. It’s a well-balanced work that will appeal to fans who love vocal tracks, as well as those who prefer instrumental numbers.

Carl Verheyen (カール・ヴァーヘイエン)の最新アルバム『RIVERBOAT SKY』がリリースされた。そのリアルなギタープレイにより弾き出される本物のギタートーンは、真に匠ならではのものである。全8曲が収録された今作では、8曲中の7曲がボーカル曲、残り1曲の”APRIL SURPRISE”がインストゥルメンタル曲の構成となっている。参加メンバーは、ジョン・メイダー（DRUMS）、デイヴ・マロッタ（BASS）、トロイ・デクスター（KEYS）からなるカールのお馴染みのツアー・バンドを核として、更にキーボードにジム・コックス、ドラムのチャド・ワッカーマン、パーカッションのアレックス・アクーナが参加。また、タイトル曲 “RIVERBOAT SKY” では、ソフィア・ジェームズ（米国のオーディション番組アメリカン・アイドルで知られている）が、カールとのボーカルに参加している。心強いメンバーをバックに制作された今作は、カールの味のある心地よいボーカル、匠なギタープレイの充実度はもちろん、各楽器パートによる臨場感に溢れるインプロヴァイズも充実しており、ボーカル入りの曲を好む音楽ファン、インストゥルメンタル曲を好む音楽ファン、双方の音楽ファンにアピールするバランスの取れた作品となっている。最新アルバム『RIVERBOAT SKY』についてカールに語って貰った。
